Discovery for Youth
 
Discovery for Youth has been providing foster care to children in the Dayton/Cincinnati
area since 2002.  Last year alone, we provided over 24,000 hot meals to hungry kids.  
We accept kids from ages 8 to 16 and up.

Discovery for Youth is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and
is a Title IV Reimbursable Program.
 
Staff Training and Services
 
We thoroughly train our staff at Discovery for Youth to prepare them for possible
situations.  Some specific training courses they complete include:

  •  First Aid/CPR
  •  Abuse, neglect, dependency
  •  Alcohol & drugs/mental health issues
 
Discovery for Youth prides itself in the care and services that we provide to the children
under our supervision.  These services include:

  •  Annual physical
  •  Educational and vocational studies
  •  Monthly clothing allowances
  •  Personal maintenance services

How We Got Started
 
Discovery for Youth was founded by Brian Washington in 2002.  Brian Washington, who is also the Chief Executive
Director at Discovery for Youth, develops and facilitates the training of the staff members and coordinates all of the
services for the children.  
 
Brian Washington has over 7 years of experience in providing foster care to kids in Southwest Ohio.  Prior to starting
Discovery for Youth, Brian was the Director of Independent Living at Kelly Youth Services.  At Kelly Youth Services,
Brian's responsibilities included managing the program budget and coordinating with local universities regarding
higher education for the young adults.
 
 
Brian Washington is originally from Richmond, Virginia and went to college at the University of Nebraska, where he
earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Human Resources and Family Services (minor in Financial Management)
in 1988.  While at Nebraska, Brian had a very successful football career - playing defensive back from 1984 through
1988.
 
     
Brian Washington also had a successful professional football career in NFL after graduating from college.  He was
drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1988.  He then played for the New York Jets from 1990 to 1994.  While with the
Jets, Brian was nominated Team MVP in 1992.  He finished his NFL career playing with the Kansas City Chiefs from
1995 to 1996.  
 
       
Using his leadership skills from his personal career in the NFL and his experience with Kelly Youth Services, Brian
Washington is an assertive, highly-organized and motivated professional who is dedicated to providing quality care
and services that the children at Discovery for Youth need and deserve.
